I have no idea what this woman eats!

I frequent La Leche League's allergy forums to find more information about this whole allergy thing. Reading through some of those posts makes me feel like my dairy/soy/(maybe) egg elimination diet is child's play. One woman's signature says the following:

known IGE allergies to dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, oats, peanuts, mustard, shellfish, beef, pork, turkey, chicken, lamb, duck (for now assuming all meats).Newly added - peas, red kidney beans and mustard

What on earth does she eat???!!!

Allergies in little ones are a lot more common than I ever thought...just in the last few weeks I've talked to about five women who had to avoid some kind of food while nursing (some of who's children are in their 30's). With all of them, they've said their kids grew out of it eventually. I'm praying Henry outgrows this!

(By the way, it's day 4 without eggs and so far no signs of his congestion clearing up. I fear I may have to try eliminating wheat next. Ugh. I have an appointment for next Thursday with his Pediatrician to see if he has any ideas. I want him going into surgery at 100%...no stuffy nose, no rattling chest. I want his whole body to focus on HEALING.)

Gosh, I really feel for you, Jeannett. I was wondering if you've heard of www.mamasource.com? I go there and ask questions all of the time. My boss introduced me to that site. The moment I asked a question, I started to get so many responses and help right away. I received 14 different advices for Ronin's rash.

Try them out! I see a lot of La Leche counselors answering personal questions about breastfeeding all of the time. Plus, you might learn that there are those out there who've experienced a case like yours.

take care,
chamnap :-)

man...that's rough! you could always ask dr. bravo what he thinks about allergy testing. i don't know how you feel about getting henry's blood drawn but the test kaitlyn had was a blood draw at the lab and will tell us what her allergies are, and also more about the igE or whatever. i know that with eczema, the allergist said that it's so hard to pinpoint what it is because an allergic reaction can take days to manifest itself. (therefore just eliminating foods one by one can be tricky.)

dr. johnson is really good, he's a pediatric allergist/immunologist and the best doctor i've ever seen, hands down, AND he's in santa maria.

keep us posted, i'm sorry he's still congested!!

We're going to Dr. Bravo next Thursday for precisely that reason...it takes a while for foods to clear our systems and because of his pending surgery in February I want this all taken care of before then. Besides, I'm taking shots in the dark at this point...and I'm secretly hoping that his congestion is just a stubborn cold and a round of antibiotics will clear it up...I'd hate to keep cutting more and more things out of my diet...it makes eating hard! :( (But, I keep losing weight every week!)

I just started cutting dairy out of my diet this week to see if helps isaiah's spitting up, fussiness & congestion. Very sad for me, but you are right on the upside- i should loose a pound or two considering ice cream and cheese are an almost daily part of my diet :) Quick question for you: when you cut out dairy, did you cut out cooked dairy too? For instance, using butter in a pasta dish or cream of chicken soup in a chicken recipe? Just curious!

YES! I cut out ALL dairy...even stuff that I didn't realize was dairy...check this link for chemical names that are dairy based.

And, you'll lose a lot more than a pound of two...

Also, check out the allergy forum on La Leche League's site...you have to be a member, but it's free in order to access the allergy part.

Oh yea...and be advised...it can take up to 6 weeks for dairy to completely clear your system, so make sure that you really give it time before you decide that it isn't working.

Sorry, it sucks, I know!
