Carrots completely undid me.

When Henry was a baby, I couldn't wait to get him started on solids.
It was just kinda the next big step, and I was excited.
And then I did...and regretted it.
It was messy, took forever, and was just a plain pain in the rear.
So, I've been putting off solids with the girls...I just really didn't want to deal with it...nursing is soooo much easier. (And babies don't need solids until age 1...anything they eat before that is really just considered practice for when they are bigger).
But Lucy has all but been ripping hunks of steak out of my hands so that she can eat it.
Finally, I figured I should probably start the girl...although I really didn't want to start until both girls were ready...and I didn't think that Jill was ready...I didn't think she could hold steady enough to really sit up and take the food and I didn't think she would be coordinated enough to actually eat/swallow the food.
I also would have sworn to you that Henry HATES carrots.
But apparently, if you tell your 2 year old that it's "baby food" he not only wants to eat it, but he somehow manages to shower in it as well.
Since she was sitting there, I thought I would try carrots with Jill. I really didn't think much of it...just wanted to see her make a funny face.
Well, not only did she eat it happily...she ate it easily, eagerly, and CLEANLY.
I'm telling you: if I didn't know better, I would wonder if someone was secretly feeding her solids for MONTHS now. She ate like a champ.
In fact, this was as messy as she got by the end of it.
Her *first* time eating solids.
I was shocked.
Lucy on the other hand...needed taken out back and hosed off by the time we were done.
She batted at the spoon as I tried to bring it to her mouth...you know, the mouth she had stuffed her sausage fingers into...
And because she had the bright idea to blow raspberries with a mouth full of pureed carrots...*I* looked like a victim from a crime scene.
I had pureed carrot on my forehead.
My forehead.
I seriously showered afterward.
So there you have it:
Henry likes carrots, Jill's an old pro at eating, and Lu might need some more practice...while I wear full rain gear much like the guys in Deadliest Catch.

i love it! i just love it! isn't that the life of a mom? just when we think we've got it figured out... :)
Yay,kids! Right on! Great story. S.U.P.E.R. cute. I don't know what tickles me more - Henry eating it if it's for his siters, Jilly's British Teatime manners or Lucy's little fingers going for it.
Oh, these children are so yummy.
Wow! Way to go, Jill! I hated how messy Bella got too... so much easier now.
Those pictures are PRICELESS! I love it :)
Absolutely hilarious. I always wished I had made AJ's baby food - but he only did the baby food thing for like 3 months, and I was just lazy apparantly. You GO mama!
*also, I can't get over all your kids EYES - they are insanely beautiful!
I am glad Jill ate so well!! Cute pictures.
