Meet Fishy
Why do I have a blue Beta Fish in my kitchen?
Because I'm stupid.
And I'm a sucker for my boy.
You see, he's been sick all weekend. Low grade fever. Pink eye. Cough. Just plain sicky.
So, when he brought me his shoes and begged me to go "bye bye...Daddy truck...let's go"...I obliged. I didn't have any errands to run so I thought we'd go to PetSmart and look at the kitties (which is a safe activity because I hate cats and would NEVER bring one home).
I think he smiled for the first time all weekend while looking at the fishies.
You know, that sad sick smile with red rimmed eyes?
Yeah, that one.
"Fishie Mama!"
So, for $3.99, I brought home a stupid fish. Oh, and then another $2.99 for food.
Man, am I dumb. Or gullible. Or just a plain sucka.
As if I need *another* mouth to feed. Sigh...
"You have GOT to be kidding." Was Andy's response. Promptly followed by: "You do know that anything you bring home is YOUR responsibility to care for?"
Oh well, my justification is that I don't really care if the stupid thing dies, so no pressure, right?
And let's be honest, I'm not above flushing the thing and/or pawning it off on some neighborhood kid...
We'll see how long Fishy resides at the Gibson Home.
For now, Henry is loving it and that makes it worth it.
For now.

Uncle Duncan always loved having Betas! They are very hardy, so not too difficult to keep alive. You are a good mommy. Good practice for Henry to get ready for the two sisters coming! Love you all.
sucka. i feel you though. we have two dogs. both were the doing of the puppy eyes (no pun intended) of my kiddos. that just means you love your little guy. i couldn't say no to him either.
ha ha ha! i secretly keep hoping our fish will die and he doesn't! and it's a walmart fish--you know how cheap walmart stuff is and this fish lasts forever. i can't bring myself to hasten its death, though. good luck with the fish--glad it brought henry smiles. that's such a cute pic of him looking at it.
My mom brought home two beta fish one for Sam, one for Serafina. I put them in charge of feeding them, hoping they might die quickly. No luck I think we are going on 5-6 months now. Serafina's fish goes weeks without food and then will get a months feeding in one shot. I always thought fish were delicate creatures?!? Go figure!
HA! Love this! And that pic of Henry with his fish is ADORABLE.
You're such a sweet mommy!
Aaron keeps reminding me to stop buying stuff for Ronin. He even suggested I not buy Ronin a seahorse. My excuse, "But they're so cool!" Eh well....
Starts simply enough... until the thing lives for going-on-2-years-now, and only swims at the bottom of the bowl and "sleeps" a lot. But since I flushed the first one before his time, I'm trying to be patient with this one...
