Friday Favorites: Burt's Bees

I *heart* Burt.

And all his crazy bees too.

I have been loving and buying Burt's Bees products...WAY before it was cool to do.

Back when you couldn't walk into Target or WalMart and buy it.

Back when only health food stores carried his stuff.

You know why? Because I'm a trail blazer like that.

Watch out.

It all started a few years ago when I just got sick. and. tired. of smelling like Petunias, Whispering Jasmine, Strawberry Cream, or Plumeria.

Look, those are all great, but at some point I just wanted to smell like...*LOTION*.

And frankly, some of the brands were overpowering...or if I put them on my legs too soon after shaving, it stung....which caused little red bumps...which is completely COUNTER PRODUCTIVE to why I even bothered to shave in the first place!

If I knew I was going to have to wear pants anyway, I'd have gone Beast Woman and saved myself the trouble.

Don't lie. You know you do it too.

Enter Burt and his Bees.

It started with the lotion.

And then the (mild) obsession with the lip balm.

And then the hand wash.

And then the baby shampoo.

Baby lotion.

Diaper cream.

Men's shave oil.

Men's after shave.

Men's shave cream.

Cuticle cream.

Foot cream.

Pretty much, you name it...you'll find it in my house.

Burt's Bees fanatics really.

I would bet there are close to 32 tubes of lip balm strewn throughout my house.

No lie.

I just love that it doesn't smell like a funeral parlor full of flowers and I do love that it's all at least 90% natural.

Particularly for my babies.

I get all weird and granola crunchy when it comes to my kids.

No Johnson's & Johnson's here.

No sir.

Only Mr. Burt.

And his bees.

Do you love Burt like I do? What's your favorite product?

How many tubes of lip balm do you think are floating around your house right now?

And the winner of the CitySlips is:

RACHEL!!!

Congrats!

I LOVE me some Burts Bees. Mainly the lip balm and lip-gloss tube things, but also the foot cream and cuticle cream.

And I'll admit it: I totally skip shaving during the crazy intense Indiana winter. I know I won't be wearing a skirt until spring :-P

Okay, so I'm going to be a contrarian and share a warning about Burt's Bees. :)

When Kaitlyn was a baby and struggling with eczema, Burt's Bees was amazing. Her arms and legs were actually soft again. So I SWORE by it.

Last month, Mary's skin got REALLY DRY. (Thanks to Denver's winter climate.) So I pulled out my trusty Burt's Bees baby lotion and started applying it once a day.

Well her skin was still dry...and kept getting worse...until she was just alllllll dry head to toe. UGH! At her well-check I talked to the doctor and he asked what I'd been using. I told him. And HE said that in his experience many, many people can't use Burt's Bees, and that it DRIES OUT their skin. So he recommended using a cream like Cetaphil, and guess what, the day I stopped Burt's Bees and started with that her skin got soft again.

Anna can't wear the lotion either...it makes her itch. (To be honest I kinda didn't believe her when she'd told me that, but after talking to the doctor I know she wasn't making it up.) Anyway, I share that because here I thought Burt's Bees HAD to be the best thing for my baby, but it actually just made it much worse.

I DO love the chapstick and lipgloss though. And the scents of their products. I just don't know if I'll use their baby products again. I guess you could say we've had a falling out!

(I was surprised too that the doc was not a fan, since he and the whole practice we go to are super crunchy, into holistic alternative medicine etc.)

I love Burts Bees too. The ONLY thing that will help my toddler when she gets a diaper rash is their ointment, not even prescriptions will! I also love their coconut foot stuff.

I have a thing for their lip balm. I wear it daily. I love it!! I haven't tried any of their other products but maybe I'll give something else a try since you recommended it so nicely.

I do love Burt's Bees! I use their lip balms and glosses -love the ones with peppermint in them. Also the Royal Jelly Eye Cream. Wondering if anyone's tried their sunscreen line or their new facial line for acne prone skin... am tempted to give them a try.

Ally-I've tried the sunscreen and hated it. It didn't rub in well, not only did it leave white, but it kinda almost "pilled" or rolled off. It was weird, can't explain it. But so far, my only bad experience with Burt.

Brianna-wow, that was quite the novel! Interesting about your doctor. So far, it's worked well for us, but thanks for the info!

Love Burt Bees. I have the Lip Balm on my desk at work right now. Love all their stuff.

I love the pepermint lip balm. The replenish is just so so. I use cephtiphil for my babies uber dry skin and moisurizing Dove body wash per doctor's orders. It moisturized all those nasty dry patched pretty quickly.

I like their lemon butter cuticle cream...but that's the only thing I've really tried. I am a chapstick addict and probably have about 15 tubes rolling around this house - so maybe I should give theirs a try :)

Love Burt's Bees! The cuticle cream is probably my favorite product - my cuticles are always SO dry. I also like the replinishing lip balm, the one with pomegranate...but my sweetheart doesn't like the way it smells. So. I use it when he's not around. ;)

You won;t believe the crazy dream I had last night. I dreamed that you were already pregnant again!

I totally wonder what Andy would do if he had that dream. :P

Yep... I was there buying Burt's with you in the health food stores! Way before Target carried it! My kidlings however ... don't like the 'minty' taste ... so we have plain chapstick everywhere too! lol! though I have not tried as many of the products as you! I might have to spread my bee wings a bit! ;)

I'm sorry! I will try to keep any future comments to a non-novel length. :)

I love love love!!! their chapstick! the minty cool tingle on my lips when I put it on, woo! I have Kyle using it too (he used to use that nasty carmex stuff! blech!)
I am allergic to Mineral Oil/Petrolatum which is the base ingredient in most lotions and chap sticks. When I use regular chapsticks my lips get more chapped! not so with Burts Bees!
My mom just got me the Baby Bees sample starter pack, I figure better safe than sorry on seeing if my little girl is allergic to Mineral Oil too (my mom and sister both are too).
