I will admit that when someone tells me that they don't already own one of these things...
...I am shocked...and a bit appalled.
I mean, how can you *not* have a stand mixer???
How do you make it through LIFE????
You might think I'm being dramatic, but...um, I'm pretty serious.
"But Jeannett, my little handheld mixer works just fine..."
Sure it does honey.
Look, I can't exactly explain the amazingness of being able to WALK AWAY from your mixing job...
...or how *awesome* it is to be able to keep spooning ingredients in without having to set that silly hand mixer down....
...or how *efficient* it is to not have to turn it off and on and not spray brownie batter all over your cupboards because you forgot to wait for it to stop spinning before pulling it out of the bowl...oh wait, maybe that's just me...
The best way I can describe it for you is this:
For the better part of my life I lived in houses that did NOT have master bedrooms.
I never understood the fascination...I mean, really...how hard is it to walk 8 feet down a hallway to a bathroom, right?
UNTIL...we moved into an apartment that HAD a master bedroom.
And then...I understood.
You can certainly go your whole life without ever having a master bedroom and be perfectly fine.
You can certainly go your whole life without having a dishwasher too.
BUT WHY WOULD YOU????
Once you experience the convenience...it'd be mighty hard to go back.
And so it is with a stand mixer.
I still have a little handheld that I hold onto for some reason. But honestly, it has a layer of dust on it. I'm not even sure I know where both of the little whisk doo-hickies are.
As a side note, if you have a stand mixer already...do yourself a favor and get a second bowl and a second mixing blade. SO nice to not have to wash it all up when you are making more than one thing.
For Christmas, Andy got me this:
Rad. He knows the way to my heart.
Kitchen supplies.
I love my mixer. She makes me happy. (While I love my black one, I secretly covet this one. It has a GLASS bowl, people! How cool is that???!!!) Every once in a while I will look over at her sitting in the corner and think: "hmmm, it's been a couple of weeks since I used you...you look lonely...I should make something..."
Again, not kidding.
Clearly I have issues.
I'm good with it.
Do you have a mixer? What color is it?
Do you have a love affair with it like I do?

Okay, I have a stand mixer, but not a kitchen aid. It's a little dinky sunbeam and probably sold for $20 in the late 90's. It certainly isn't as cool as it's $300 friend, but it does the trick on most things. It's not great at creaming cream cheese though. I just can't see why I would replace it when it works fine the 6-8 times a year I use it. And I am a little old school, I hand mix most baking recipes unless in specifically calls for a mixer.
But of couse, now that I have a Dyson, I will never own a cheap vacuum again. So I am sure I will feel the same way about my mixer when I upgrade.
Hey there! I am so happy I have found your blog!!
This is the truth: we got one of the these when we got married (almost 8 years ago) and it sits in the cupboard. Its just so big and I like handmix things. Is that horrible?
Its beautiful and I love it....I just leave it up there....
Cherry Tree...check back on wednesday for my wishing wednesday where you will see the solution to having it take up so much space...that i don't have, but...wish for. :)
I have one in Black but I would love the Pink or Aqua one. I wish they let you trade them. But I rarly use mine. I always go for my hand mixers. I have two. but I think It's just easier to wipe them down. but everything you said makes since, I bet if it were always on top of the counter, I would prefer it. I'm just lazy to pull it out and then have to clean it all up. :)
I agree with you--I LOVE my stand mixer and wonder how we all got along before them. Mine is cobalt blue, receive it as a wedding gift 11 years ago. I don't have the extra bowl-I just never seem to getting around to buying one. I do have the blade with the spatula thing on the edge and I don't really like it. Doesn't seem to mix as well. I also have a hand mixer and I do use it from time to time for certain things. It seems to work better than the stand for smaller amounts of things. Have you seen the copper one?
I have a grey one(silver, whatever). Honestly, it sits on top of our refrigerator. I don't do much baking (I don't have any will power to stay clear of baked goods once baked...), but I just KNEW I had to have it as a wedding present. I did dust it a week or so ago... :)
If you have any other nummy recipes that I can use it for, I think I might consider bringing it down more often...
Can't wait for your Wishing Wednesday!
I certainly agree! I know that I could not live without mine! My daughter is getting married in July and I got her one for her shower. They are the best!
I have a kitchen aid white mixer. I use it 4 times a year ... maybe. I also have a hand mixer that I use once a year. I don't have the counter space to leave it out so I only remember to use it after I have hand mixed whatever it was that I could have "mixered". Ah well ...
(oh, and I agree with rachel. I have a Dyson too and I love , love, love it!)
sob, sob, sob.... I do not ... sob... have one! Just never had the $300 or the kitchen space for it... then I needed my own house and all the little $300 things you have to buy when you buy the house, then I needed flowers for landscaping $300 +, then I needed berry plants and fruit trees - it takes years for them to produce - what was I thinking $300++? Then I HAD to have a puppy (what was I thinking) ahem $300+++ then... then... Sob sob sob...
one day I will have the one with the glass bowl - I love glass bowls!!
Just Jenn~
You are too funny. I have a red one that sits in the corner of my kitchen collecting dust. I love it when I use it, but honestly - I rarely do. I don't bake. I think the handful of times I have used it was for mashed potatoes.
yes i do - it's a kitchen aid professional 600 polished silver with the metal dough hook, why so i can make bread :) yes i love it. it took me a month to pick out the perfect one after months of research. i keep it on my countertop for easy access :)
i *heart* my kitchen aid mixer. it's white and looks all boring but i love it just the same :) i hardly ever used it before the remodel due to the lack of counter space but now i look for reasons to use it... in fact, i'm getting ready to whip up a batch of butter cream frosting in a few minutes :)
I have a lovely RED kitchen aid. I am chagrined to say that I left it in it's box for the first year of our marriage (it was a gift from my parents) before I realized that I could do things much easier if I used it!!! I would LOVE to have the glass bowl though! and a lot of the other attachments... I do still use my hand mixer, but only if the job is small, I don't like to pull out the whole mixer if the job can be done on a smaller scale, with smaller dishes.
I love my mixer, I've had it for about 4 years now. She white and looooooove her, but part of me wishes I got a green one....
LOVE my Kitchen Aid. It's white and was a gift from some friends who re-did their kitchen...apparently white totally clashed and they HAD to have the brushed metal one. Um, I'm not gonna judge since I got it for free! My heart of hearts loves the red one though!!
i just bought a stand mixer yesterday thanks to my costco american express refund! i actually have a post started on my new mixer.
i received a stand mixer for a wedding gift and used it maybe twice. i had no counter or cupboard space in the first two places we lived. the mixer lived in the basement and it was easier to use a hand mixer.
i bake at least once or twice a week so i started thinking that i needed one now that i have a spot in my pantry for it. i love my hand mixer so it will be an adjustment to get myself to use the stand mixer. i love the idea of having an extra bowl.
i really really really wanted red but they were out so i have silver.
Yes! We have one. It's white and Chris actually had the vision to get one with our wedding gift money. He had to convince me that it was worth the big bucks. It so is.
I lust after one of these beauties! yes it would make my life complete...im with you girl all the way!
i would have to get a lemon coloured one to match my blender!!
*swoon*

My grandmother gave me my Kitchen Aid (white)one so many years ago I can't remember - more than 27 because it was before we moved to SLO :> I am with you Jeannett!!!!! My first mixer was a wedding gift with was a hand mixer that could be put on the stand - deluxe model, I guess!!! It was good, but really didnt' work that well and I wore it out :> I don't have a lot of counter space (I have an under-the-cupboard toaster oven)but 3 things are honored: my Kitchen Aid, my Cuisinart and my blender :>
