Mastitis

102.2 fever.

Chills.

Nausea.

I'd totally give up. But I only stick it out because I honestly cannot afford formula for two.

No grand and noble reason that would make the La Leche League proud.

Just simple economics.

I had a feeling this was going to happen...girls haven't been "emptying" me the last few days...and then last night they slept through a feeding...fantastic for sleep...not so fantastic for milk ducts.

The good news is that I don't think there is *anything* else I can possibly get....so here's to hoping I'm finally done feeling like absolute s&*&^ every few days.

When Andy has his "appointment" someday...let no one be surprised or ask why.

Rotten. I hope you feel better soon. Keep it up, dear one, even though it's glass shards now, I know you cherish nursing and it will get better.

So sorry...

Oh Jeannett I'm SO sorry!!!! Praying you feel better SOON!

(Did you know I got mastitis while I was nursing Kaitlyn? It's horrible.)

Keep hanging in there. Love you!

I've been thinking about you, and I know you know this stuff being an experienced mom, but thought I would add a few things that helped me:

Absolutely no underwires and no pads with plastic. I had good experiences with the flat Gerber ones, and I think they had a thicker, cottony pad that was good too. The Avent ones were nice for going out into public with confidence, but a no-no for my system.

(Who needs confidence, right? Argh.)

The other thing that helped was to hold the baby somewhat under me. If memory serves me right, I was on my knees on my couch, holding the baby suspended under the breast while she latched on and gurgled it up. It sounds uncomfortable (and not practical for tandem nursing), but it only took a few minutes to give relief to those spots that just felt plugged up.

Sorry, this is so long. Now, please go get a warm shower and lots and lots of rest. Be taken care of just like after your surgery, and be blessed.

I am so, so sorry, Jeannett. I had that with my first while my husband was who-knows-where under the sea in a submarine - thank GOD for friends who took me to the doctor and put up with all my tears ( I was also 3000 miles away from family)
