Here's the Deal:

Just got back from seeing Dr. Safarik. Like Andy said "Not as great as I wanted to hear, but what I expected". He said that I do have mild pre-eclampsia. Nothing severe, but that doesn't mean that things can't change quickly. He did an ultrasound and baby is fine, amniotic fluid looks good, nothing to worry about there. He did say that he wants the baby out as soon as possible so that we keep the time that more could go wrong to an absolute minimum. He said he wasn't quite at the point that he would recommend induction in a hospital yet, but that we needed to do everything else we could think of to coax the little guy out ASAP. He said he would love it if we could get the baby out by Sunday. Yes, this Sunday. As in a few days Sunday. Holy Moly.

He massaged my cervix which was quite unpleasant and painful. And he had me re-take my blood work (third time in 6 days)...I have an appointment to see him again on Friday morning, so that he can massage my cervix again (ugh) and have my blood work done again. In regards to the home birth he said that it was ultimately up to Andy and I at this point. He didn't say we were crazy to do it still, unless of course something changes in the next few days. So, that's good news. We would obviously never do anything to compromise my health or our baby's health, nor would Brenda. So, as of now, we are still on track for a home birth, but are prepared to change plans if things start going awry.

Today is my last day of work. I could have had him write me out starting today, but I can't just leave for 3 months without tying up loose ends. I have to return some emails, let my clients know that I'll be gone, and clean off my desk and go over my projects with my co-workers.

So, there you have it. Not the best news, but not really bad either.

Yea! Pretty good news :) I can't stop thinking about you. Very exciting... and I'm offering help if you can think of something. (What was it.. old blankets or whatever.) I'm rooting for you.. I think I might also want to try a home birth, if there is a next time for me. (I also can't stand hospitals... not that there's anything wrong with that.) But I've never had a friend have a home birth, so you're my guinea pig.. yep, your birth is all about me :) I'm praying that things keep looking up, and that you both stay healthy.

massage your cervix?!? what an oxymoron! massages are supposed to be relaxing, calming, ....enjoyable! lucky you, you get another "massage" in a couple days. i think it should be renamed to cervix poking, proding, stretching.... something much less comfortable than what they're trying to fool you with! what are they suggesting you do to "speed things up"? btw everyone, joy had her baby girl today at 11. esther virginia!!!!

Wow, by Sunday?! I'm sorry you have mild pre-eclampsia but it sounds like you're in really good hands all around. Will keep praying for you!

Time to start eating those spicy foods and, uh, doing that other stuff that they say helps the baby come! ;)

(I have some receiving blankets ready for you, you can get them tonight.)

Besides the "obvious" recommendation for speeding up labor, you could get a really good foot massage. There are some major pressure points on the foot that if pressed can bring on contractions. I know how you feel about hospitals, I feel the same way, but I will say that we LOVED our deliveries at French Hospital SLO. It was very un-hospital like, and I will always remember getting through some pretty bad contractions by watching "The Devil Wears Prada" on dvd on the in-room player. Pretty nice! Good luck and God bless.
