My Masterpiece...

...just don't look too close. Some of my seams and where the wall meets the ceiling are kinda pathetic.

Whenever Andy goes out of town, I try to keep myself busy around the house by starting a "project". So, I figured I'd paint the baby's room. Okay, so I know I'm not really supposed to paint at almost 7 months pregnant. Sue me. I kept the big window open the whole time and turned the ceiling fan on to keep the air circulating. I think it was okay. The paint is water based, and has no lead in it, so I think it was mostly okay (shhh....don't tell my midwife!).

I had gone to a Home Builders Association Mixer on Thursday night, and walked through some FABULOUS model homes (Mesa Verde in Orcutt...they're amazing...starting at only $750,000!). I had no idea how I wanted to paint the baby's room, but while walking through one of the models, there was a little boy's room that had this box type of pattern on one wall, and I just loved it. So, I took a picture with my camera phone (because my brain doesn't seem to remember details all the time) and went to Home Depot to pick out paint colors. That was tough. It's unnerving to pick out paint! It can get expensive and you don't want to pick the wrong shade that ends up looking awful and having to do it all over again!

If you can't tell, I've decided on the blue/brown crib bedding after all (although I still need to order the fabric!). The painting took me ALL DAY. Those squares were a PAIN. Because I wanted the colors right next to each other (as opposed to having a white "stripe" in between them), I could only do some boxes and then wait for them to dry so I could tape over them for the next box. About 3/4 of the way through, I almost gave up. My back and hips are killing me and my belly was rock hard the rest of the night. So, I think I overdid it. Oops. Oh well, I think it looks pretty cool! :)

jeannett i'm so proud of you. it looks awesome. and it is perfectly fine for you to paint, i used to be a painter and water-based paint has no "fumes", but keeping the air circulated is still a good idea. the only real concern lies more in overworking yourself (which you did!), and standing on a ladder and losing your balance. i am shocked you completed that project in a day, what an accomplishment!

Yeah, I painted too when I was pregnant, using water based paint. And my kids but turned out fine.
The room looks amazing!

Oh my! That's amazing. Okay, everyone else was right, the browns and tans are awesome. Your little boy is going to love staring at those rich brown squares. Wow. I'm truely impressed. Darin says that he really likes the colors too.

All I have to say is that this kid better be a boy! Although I suppose that if it's a girl, I can paint the blue walls pink and do a pink/brown theme instead! Makes a girl nervous though...

Great job, Jeannett! The beige looks a little greenish on my computer, but I know your color sense is flawless. So, you are leaving the blue walls blue? When are you ordering fabric? As you can tell, I want some colors I can count on so I can go fabric shopping.

What's up with your hair?

The tan does actually have some green undertones, but it matches the fabric swatches I have perfectly. The walls in that room were previously white (it's the old guest bedroom) and yes, all three of them are blue. Actually, only 2 of them are blue so far...I got tired and left the last one for Andy to finish. I chopped my hair off on Friday. It's pretty short, maybe if I find the courage I'll take a picture and post it (it's shorter than I've ever done before). Oh, and I plan on ordering the fabric tonight! Blues, browns, and beige are it!

Actually, I'll cut off a piece of my swatches and mail them to you for reference!
